Ember Ceramics

A two person ceramics studio needed a brand as warm and simple as their glazes. The identity is built from one colour, taken straight from their signature yellow glaze, and a set of rules for photographing every new piece the same way.

The challenge

Ember makes small batches of vases and tableware, and every batch looks slightly different. Their old photos were taken on a phone in whatever light was available, so the online shop looked like ten different studios. The brand needed to make the variety feel intentional instead of accidental.

The approach

We mixed the brand colour from the actual glaze, matched it on paper, screen and fabric, and kept everything else neutral. Then we planned a simple photo setup the founders can build in their studio: one grey wall, one window, one table height. Each new piece is photographed in under ten minutes.

The outcome

The shop finally looks like one place. Returning customers rose by a third in the first season, and the photo guide means the founders never wait for a photographer again. The yellow has become so recognisable that stockists now ask for it by name.

We came for a logo and left with a way of working.
