Atelier Sel

A small atelier making linen and salt soaps near the coast. The identity lives almost entirely in blind embossing: a mark you feel before you see it, like salt on skin.

The challenge

Atelier Sel sells mostly in person, at their own shop and at two hotels nearby. The founders wanted a brand that felt tactile and local, but they had a tiny budget and no space to store large print runs. Everything had to be produced in small quantities, on demand.

The approach

We designed a mark that works as a blind emboss, a rubber stamp and a single colour print, so the same tool does almost everything. Stationery, labels and swing tags are printed in black on white stock, then embossed by hand in the atelier with one press.

The outcome

The founders produce their own tags and cards in minutes, as they need them. Hotel guests started buying the soaps as gifts because the packaging looked like it was made for gifting. The press now sits by the shop window, and visitors are allowed to emboss their own card.

It feels like it was always ours.
